Weinhaus Bettina Schumann produces elegant wines with unique style. Not all winemakers inherit family vineyards; some, like Bettina Schumann discover and dedicate themselves to the craft at an early age, bringing an unconventional perspective and immense dedication to every bottle. Originally from Berlin, Bettina studied Viticulture and Enology at the University of Geisenheim in Germany and cultivated her expertise through work in New Zealand, Italy, and Austria. She made her first vintage under Weinhaus Bettina Schumann in 2017, and in 2018, she met master sommelier and now-wife Melanie. Bettina and Melanie run Weinhaus Bettina Schumann together in the Kaiserstuhl region.
Weinhaus Bettina Schumann sources grapes from five vineyards in the Kaiserstuhl region, especially selected for their biodynamic and sustainable farming practices. Bettina and Melanie have established deep and trusting relationships with the farmers whose high-quality grapes encourage the bold, elegant, and creative expression revealed in every sip of Weinhaus Bettina Schumann wine.
You’ll recognize the label by the signature shoes on the label: the Red Shoe marks their flagship wines, with the Gold Shoe signals the top-tier. And you might even recognize Bettina, who always sports red shoes!
Tupetz Connection: At a small wine show in Cologne featuring German Pinot Noirs, Weinhaus Bettina Schumann caught our founder Lisa Tupetz by surprise. “Bettina and Melanie’s wines are edgy while the bottle is lovely. There’s nothing mainstream about what they’re making – their wines belong to a class of their own.”
