Between the Mosel and the Saar river, sits Weingut Margarethenhof, a vineyard owned and run by the Webers whose family motto is Zwei Flüsse. Zwei Terroirs. Ein Weingut. (Two rivers. Two terroirs. One winery.) The Weber family has lived in the Southern Mosel region for over 100 years, cultivating wine and community. In 1986, Jürgen and Doro Weber acquired Winzerverein Ayl and dedicated their lives to the business of German wine. Jürgen even brought German wines to German soccer matches with the opening of the Weinbar at Allianz Arena in Munich.
Nicolas Weber, the son of Jürgen and Doro, studied in enology and viticulture, interned in New Zealand and Italy, and joined the family business as head winemaker in 2020. Nicolas brought elegance and a fresh complexity to Margarethenhof wines, while honoring the unique terroir and classic appeal of Germany’s beloved Riesling. The ancient shell limestone soil of the Southern Mosel is also ideal for growing Burgundian style grapes such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and the ancient Elbling. Under Nicolas’ guidance, Margarethenhof presents exceptional wines that intimate a multi-generational connection to the land.
Tupetz Connection: Margarethenhof welcomed our founder Lisa Tupetz as an intern during her winemaking studies. During a tradeshow in Cologne, Lisa approached their winemaker at the time, [NAME] and asked if she could intern with him. He invited her to Margarethenhof that summer where she met the Webers and quickly became part of the family. Lisa adopted Doro and Jürgen Weber’s work ethic which seeds her drive as a winemaker and entrepreneur.
