Winemaker, Visionairy, Brain Behind the brand – Niko Brandner.
He is a “Quereinsteiger”. Like me, Niko doesn’t come from a winemaker family. He used to be a banker for a few years, but luckily changed his mind to pursue a career in winemaking. He learned at the legendary winery Fuerst and also did an internship at Raumland, the long-time number 1 sparkling wine house in Germany.
Between the Mosel and the Saar river, sits Weingut Margarethenhof, a vineyard owned and run by the Webers whose family motto is Zwei Flüsse. Zwei Terroirs. Ein Weingut. (Two rivers. Two terroirs. One winery.) The Weber family has lived in the Southern Mosel region for over 100 years, cultivating wine and community. In 1986, Jürgen and Doro Weber acquired Winzerverein Ayl and dedicated their lives to the business of German wine. Jürgen even brought German wines to German soccer matches with the opening of the Weinbar at Allianz Arena in Munich.
Hailing from the Hinterlands, Jens Steckenpferd brings homegrown knowledge of farming from growing up in his parents’ agricultural business plus his own apprenticeship adventures in New Zealand to every vintage of Weingut Werther-Windisch. Jens took over the family farming business in 2010 and transformed it into an independent winery with organic certification since 2020.
Family-founded in 1728, Weingut Dreissigacker has become a first-class German winery with Jochen Dreissigacker at the helm. Jochen transformed the family business into a top German wine label through his sustainable farming and business practices. Dreissigacker’s delicious, low-intervention wines carry the excellence of the grapes and the great working environment Jochen has cultivated since 2001.
Weingut Siegloch wines are dynamic, innovative, and rooted in a deep family tradition of respect for nature. Brothers David and Markus Siegloch took over the family winery in 2014 after their father died in the midst of their winemaking studies. David studied Enology and Viticulture at Geisenheim University while Markus focused on viticulture. The two carried on their father’s diligent care of the vineyard which is home to several beloved varieties, including centenarian Cabernet Franc vines. David and Markus’ sustainable and vigilant farming practices produce the highest quality grapes which require very little intervention in the process of becoming wine.
Weinhaus Bettina Schumann produces elegant wines with unique style. Not all winemakers inherit family vineyards; some, like Bettina Schumann discover and dedicate themselves to the craft at an early age, bringing an unconventional perspective and immense dedication to every bottle. Originally from Berlin, Bettina studied Viticulture and Enology at the University of Geisenheim in Germany and cultivated her expertise through work in New Zealand, Italy, and Austria. She made her first vintage under Weinhaus Bettina Schumann in 2017, and in 2018, she met master sommelier and now-wife Melanie. Bettina and Melanie run Weinhaus Bettina Schumann together in the Kaiserstuhl region.
German sparkling wine made in the traditional method is known as Sekt. Max Wagner reinvigorates the old craft with a simple, effervescent vision: to savor the joy of sharing a moment together. With Heinz Wagner Sekt, Max seeks to guide the conversation away from technical aspects of wine and to something deeper. His philosophy on Sekt is rather simple: “Sparkling wine is not about looking into the glass, it’s about looking into people’s eyes. It’s about connecting. With bubbles, there’s an occasion that brings people together. So to me, it’s Heinz Wagner, to joy!”
